The general holiday may be announced from April 14

A one-week general holiday may be announced from April 14 in a 'total lockdown' to prevent coronavirus infection. The cabinet department has made preparations in this regard.

This information has come to light after searching in the cabinet department on Sunday. An official in charge of the department told that the announcement of general holiday is coming. For the time being, it is one week, but considering the situation, there are plans to extend it for another week.

Work is now underway on what other restrictions will be in place, including the closure of public transport during public holidays. These issues will be clarified in the circular.

Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader said the first phase of the ongoing lockdown will continue tomorrow and the day after tomorrow (April 12 and 13). Long-distance passenger transport will remain closed until further notice. The all-out lockdown will start from April 14.

According to government sources, this is likely to be the case with the general holiday last year. The general holiday was declared from March 26 last year. Initially, a 10-day holiday was declared, but later it was extended to several days and the general holiday was reduced to 7 days. At first, almost everything except the emergency services was closed, but at one stage, some issues, including export-oriented industries, were opened.

Once again, four organizations in the garment sector have demanded to keep the garment and textile factories open in 'Lockdown'. BGMEA, BKMEA, BTMA and EAB held a press conference at a hotel in the capital on Sunday.
