Not Coronavirus, government desperate to suppress BNP: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the government was desperate to suppress BNP leaders and activists politically by filing false cases rather than dealing with the coronavirus.

The BNP secretary general said this in a statement signed by BNP acting office secretary Syed Emran Saleh Prince on Thursday (April 8th).

In a statement, the BNP general secretary said cases, arrests and harassment-torture had taken place against 4,000 people, including leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations, in Faridpur's Saltha. He strongly condemned and protested the incident. He demanded immediate withdrawal of the case, unconditional release of the arrested persons and restoration of normalcy in Salta.

He further said in the statement that due to the indifference and failure of the government, the situation in Bangladesh is getting out of control. The coronavirus epidemic in Bangladesh is now more pronounced than last year. The number of people infected and dying from the virus is increasing at a geometric rate every day. But the government is still failing to deal with the crisis.
