I have decided to take a tough stand to maintain law and order: Home Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, "We have held the meeting to maintain law and order." We have seen some innocent people lose their lives without any excuse. Those who lost their lives were more outsiders than madrasa students. Ordinary people were more. We don't want anyone to be killed.

"We have decided to take a tough stand to maintain law and order," he said. If necessary, instructions are being given at the district level. District level magistrates, police superintendents and other law enforcement agencies sit where they will make arrangements to maintain law and order.

He was responding to a question from reporters at his office after an emergency meeting of the core committee on maintaining law and order in the conference room of the home ministry at the secretariat on Tuesday afternoon.

Stating that none of the saboteurs identified to maintain law and order in the country will be spared, the Home Minister said that none of those identified in the eyes of law and order forces will be spared.

He said, "One thing we have noticed is that recently the Upazila Land Office, Tehsil Office has been set on fire." The people of the area will be affected if all these are set on fire. The land offices control the ownership, survey and naming of the land there. If his records are burnt, the people of the area will suffer. What we saw was that many land offices were burnt down in the war of independence. As a result, it took many years to bring it into a system. The incidents took place in Hathazari, Brahmanbaria and Saltha Upazilas without any reason or provocation. I will also call on the people of the area concerned to protest.
